Playback Training at DRM Mental Health

Receive Playback Training from an Accredited Playback Theatre Trainer at DRM Mental Health

DRM Mental Health is proud to offer specialized Playback training, a unique and powerful form of improvisational theatre used to build community, promote empathy, and foster personal growth. My name is Davis R. Melendez, and I am an Accredited Playback Theatre Trainer (APTT) with over two decades of experience in this transformative art form.

Our Playback Training Journey

In 1998, while completing studies in Performing Arts, I was invited to assist in performance as a Master Electrician for an improv troupe called Playback Philadelphia. This opportunity sparked a lifelong passion for Playback Theatre. Two years later, I joined the Philadelphia Queer Playback Company, marking the beginning of an ongoing adventure in Playback Theatre that has spanned the globe over the past 20 years.

Starting as a performer ensemble member, I progressed to become a graduate and, since 2019, an Accredited Playback Theatre Trainer (APTT). This extensive experience has equipped me to offer expert training in Playback Theatre, which has been performed and well received in diverse settings including schools, corporate environments, community centers, and mental health facilities.

What Is Playback Theatre?

Playback Theatre is an improvisational form where audience members tell stories from their lives, and actors immediately perform them back using music, movement, and spoken word. This interactive process fosters a deep sense of connection and understanding among participants. Playback Theatre is used in various contexts to enhance communication, promote healing, and build a sense of community.

  • Techniques for creating a safe and inclusive environment
